CC: Wildcat Men Place 3rd, Women Place 6th at 5th Annual Wildcat Classic.

MARCY, N.Y. - SUNY Poly cross-country hosted its annual Wildcat Classic Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The men's and women's teams both fared well in the meet finishing third and sixth respectively.

 

Women's 6K

Twelve teams competed in the first race of the day; the women's 6K. Clarkson University earned 1st place as a team with a score of 35. Their top finisher, Sarah Duclos, finished in second place overall with a time of 23:15.

The race winner was Kaitlyn Stinson from Utica College. Stinson finished the race with a time of 23:01, 14 seconds faster than the second place runner. Her team, Utica College, finished in 2nd place with a score of 37 points.

The Wildcats top five finished the race in 22nd, 24th, 33rd, 39th, and 46th. Rebecca LaPorte (New Hartford, N.Y.) was the Wildcats first finisher with a time of 26:38. Kiersten Albertson (Kirkville, N.Y.) and Jalize Mejia-Perez (Bronx, N.Y.) were second and third for the with times of 26:48 and 28:52 respectively. Caley Grasso (Rensselaer, N.Y.) (30:41) and Katherine Candels (32:21) rounded out the top five for the Wildcats. The team finished with a score of 164 finishing in 6th place overall.

 

Men's 8K

The men's 9K was also won by Clarkson University with a team score of 27. Their top finisher, A.J. Beers, finished first overall with a time of 27:25.

The Wildcats finished in third place with 70 points placing their entire top five in the top 20. The Wildcats top finisher was Noah Valvo (Town of Wright, N.Y.) who placed third in the race with a time of 27: 40. Jonathon Miller (Oneonta, N.Y.) and Christopher Bouchard (Latham, N.Y.) finished in 12th and 17th with times of 28:32 and 28:40 respectively. Derek Smith (Rochester, N.Y.) and Ian Kurzrock (Woodbourne, N.Y.) placed 18th (28:43) and 20th (28:55) to finish out the scoring for the Wildcats.

Three other NEAC members took part in the race. Rival Cobleskill placed fourth in the race with a score of 110. Their top finisher Anthony Bouchard placed ninth.

 

 Up Next

The Wildcats will take a weekend off between races. Their next race will take place on October 7th at Hamilton College. The "Hamilton College Invitational" will start at 11:00 AM on the campus of Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y..
