MVB: Wildcats Take Down Keuka to Advance to the NEAC Final Four in Lancaster.

MARCY, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly Wildcats are heading to the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Final Four after defeating Keuka 3-1 at home. The Wildcats got out to a hot start, winning the first two sets 25-20 and 25 -18. Keuka fought back, winning the third set 25-23 but the Wildcats closed the door in the fourth 25-18.

The Wildcats hit .302 as a team, recording 60 kills on 129 swings. The Wildcats had three players with double-digit kills. The 'Cats also doubled the blocking numbers of the Wolves 20-10 with four players recording multiple blocks.

STAT POINTS:

  • Max Szuba (Irondequoit, N.Y.) had a match high 19 kills on 47 swings bringing his season kills total to a team best 241. Szuba also had nine digs, a block assist, and a service ace.
  • Donovan Suguitan (Clifton Park, N.Y.) had 16 kills, three digs, and a block assist.
  • James Homan (Fairport, N.Y.) had 10 kills for the Wildcats and hit .533. he also had three block assists bringing his season block total to 55.
  • Garrett Hassard (Oneonta, N.Y.) dominated at the net, recording a solo block and six block assists. Hassard had five kills and three digs. He leads the Wildcats with 61 total blocks this season which ranks ninth all time for blocks in a single season.
  • Ryan Gloff (Brockport, N.Y.) had six blocks in the game. The junior also had seven kills and two digs.
  • Zach Goggin (Feeding Hills, Mass.) had 52 assists, three block assists, three kills, and two digs. His career assist total is now 3,455.
  • Brian Malsan (Slingerlands, N.Y.) had a match high 19 digs, bringing his season total to 221. He is currently fifth on the all-time digs list with 617.
  • Keuka's Connor Gail had a team high 14 kills on 43 swings. He also had eight digs and a block assist.
  • Alex Riley had 12 kills for the Wolves. He had seven digs, a block assist, and a service ace.

The Wildcats will travel to Lancaster Bible this weekend to compete in the NEAC Final Four. SUNY Poly will face #2 seeded Wells College in the semifinal round on Saturday at 2:30 PM. This season, the Wildcats lost to Wells in a thrilling five set match where the Wildcats nearly pulled off a comeback from an 0-2 deficit.
