MVB: Wildcats Earn a Much Needed NEAC Win Over Rival Keuka 3-1.

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly Wildcats traveled to Keuka on Friday to take on The Wolves in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) match. The Wildcats earned their eighth conference win 3-1 over the Wolves 25-18, 25-19, 23-25, 25-22.

The Wildcats took the first two sets in relatively easy fashion, winning 25-18 in the first and 25-19 in the second. In the third set, the Wildcats got down 17-12 before mounting a comeback to knot the match at 22. Unfortunately, the Wildcats could not finish the match in the third set, managing just one more point after erasing a five-point deficit. The Wildcats would go on to make the fourth set the last set, winning 25-22.

The Wildcats hit a very solid .358 in the match with just 17 errors on 123 swings. The Wolves hit just .156 as a team.

Max Szuba (Irondequoit, N.Y.) had his best match of the season to date. The sophomore had a season high 18 kills on 41 swings for a hitting percentage of .317. Szuba also had six digs and a block assist in the win for the Wildcats.

Piotr Kasza (Mechowiev, Poland) had a very solid all around match for his team. The setter had 24 assists in the game. He also hit a match high .643 with 10 kills on 14 attacks. Kasza also had five digs, a game high two solo blocks, and a block assist.

Ryan Gloff (Brockport, N.Y.), Nick Hagen (Hilton, N.Y.), and Connor Schultz (Lancaster, N.Y.) all played well for the Wildcats. Gloff hit .500 with 12 kills on 20 swings and had eight digs. Hagen had eight kills and had two block assists. Schultz had nine kills and had a service ace in the match.

Brian Malsan (Slingerlands, N.Y.) had a match high 17 digs in the win, averaging 4.25 per set.

For Keuka, Connor Gail had a team high 14 kills and had two service aces. Chris Corcoran had a team high 12 digs, two kills, and a block assist.

The Wildcats are now 13-13 in 2017 and are 8-4 in the NEAC. The Wildcats will be back in action on Tuesday, March 28th against Wells. The match is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start and will take place at Wells College.
