MARCY, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly Wildcats lost their first North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) match of the season on Wednesday 2-3 to Wells College. The difference in the match was simply the attacking. The Express hit .225 in the five set match while the Wildcats hit .151.

The Wildcats won the first set 21-25 and looked to be in a groove without two of their starters. The team fell flat in the second and third set losing 16-25 and 18-25 respectively. The team bounced back to win a tight fourth set 25-23. The Wildcats looked to be down and out in the fifth set after falling behind 12-4 but the Cats' tried to fight back. The team won eight of the next 10 points in the match but the big lead was too much to overcome and the Wildcats fell in the fifth 15-12.

Max Szuba (Irondequoit, N.Y.) had a team high 15 kills on 45 swings. Max also had 10 digs and three assists in the match.

Connor Schultz (Lancaster, N.Y.) had 11 kills, his second highest total in his young career. Schultz had four digs, a service ace, and was tied with a team high two block assists.

Ryan Gloff (Brockport, N.Y.) had the highest hitting percentage among the three Wildcats with double-digit kills. He hit .133 with 10 kills and had a service ace, two digs and two block assists.

Zach Goggin (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and Brian Malsan (Slingerlands, N.Y.) both had a team high 14 digs. Malsan, the libero, had a perfect 1.000 serve receiving percentage on a game high 33 attempts. Goggin had a solid day setting with a game high 44 assists. He also had two service aces and three kills.

For Wells, Brandon Perdicho had a game high 22 kills on 53 swings. He also had 4 digs in the match. Caden O'Loughlin had a game high 17 digs. O'Loughlin also had 13 kills, a service ace, and a block assist. Ryan Turner had a game high six block assists, three kills, and a dig in the match.

The Wildcats are now 7-8 on the year and are 4-1 in the NEAC. The team will be back in action on Saturday when they host the New Paltz Hawks. The Hawks are currently ranked fourth in the nation. The match is scheduled for a 1:00 PM start.
