MSOC: Wildcats Improve to 5-2 in NEAC Play With a 2-1 Win Over Berks.

READING, PA. - The SUNY Poly men's soccer team (7-7-0, 5-2-0 NEAC) earned a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) win over Penn State Berks (6-8-1, 2-4-1 NEAC) on Saturday 2-1. The Wildcat offense put 11 shots on goal in the game, netting the first and last goals of the game. Once the go-ahead goal was scored early in the second half for the Wildcats, the defense needed to hold strong and they did just that.

The Wildcats first goal of the game was scored in the ninth minute by Benjamin Alonge (Elmont, N.Y.) off an assist by Amadou Ndiaye (Harlem, N.Y.). The goal is Alonge's eighth of the season. He has scored seven of his eight goals in conference play. Ndiaye's assist was his sixth of the season giving him a total of 10 points. The Wildcat's game winning goal was scored by Gerry Thermil (Valley Stream, N.Y.) in the 48th minute off a Zach Joseph (Oneonta, N.Y.) corner kick. 

Alexander Gigliotti (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) earned his third win of the season in goal. He made five saves bringing his season total to 25. 

The Nittany Lion goal was scored by Brenden Valverde in the 29th minute off an assist by Cole Mays. 

Up Next: 

The Wildcats will take on the Bryn Athyn Lions on the road on Sunday. The game is scheduled for a 12:00 PM start. The Lions are 2-6 in NEAC play this season and are tied for fifth place in the NEAC South Division.
