Men’s Lacrosse Drops Contest to Mitchell

NEW LONDON, CT – The SUNYIT Men's Lacrosse Team fell to Mitchell on Sunday in an away game, 7-3. The Mariners jumped out to a 6-1 lead at the half then clamped on defense in the second to hold on for the win.

As has been their difficulty this season, the Wildcats simply couldn't find the net on Saturday. SUNYIT outperformed the home team in turnover margin, shots, and split both the categories of faceoffs and groundballs.

Nicholas Levanti, Tyler Serva, and Jon Eguren all tallied a goal apiece for the Wildcats, with Adam Reynolds and Shane Joswick recording SUNYIT's only two assists. Joswick and Gifford each had 2 caused turnovers, as did Alexander Seamans, and the pair grabbed 9 of the team's 25 groundballs.

Jeffrey Melnik did a nice job in goal for the Wildcats, making 11 saves on the day. The Mitchell keeper, though, was even better, turning away 15 shots, including 10 in the second half as the Wildcats tried to get back in the game.

SUNYIT will stay on the road for a date with Cazenovia on Wednesday, April 9th. Game time is slated for 4:00 pm.
