Men’s Lacrosse Falls to Alfred University in Season-Opener

MARCY, N.Y. – The SUNYIT Men's Lacrosse Team (0-1, 0-0 NEAC) dropped their home opener Saturday, falling to Alfred University (1-0) by a score of 20-4.

The powerful Saxon team jumped out to an early 6-2 lead in the first quarter and extended the advantage to 13-2 at the half.

Leading the way for the victors was Brett Carroll, who scored 4 goals on the day while dishing out one assist. Right behind him was Derek Bishop with 3 goals and a pair of assists.

For the Wildcats it was Jon Eguren (Vittoria, Spain / Cicero-North Syracuse) doing most of the scoring. The senior netted three goals on the day, including an impressive shot in the fourth period from several yards out. With a defender in his face, Eguren whipped the ball from an almost blind position, beating the Saxon keeper. Assisting on the play was Brett Gifford (Cazenovia, N.Y. / Cazenovia), who scored SUNYIT's other goal in the third period.

The Wildcats will be back in action at the same time next week, as they host the Oswego State Lakers on Saturday, March 1st, for a 1:00 pm game.
