MBB: Wildcats Nearly Mount a 17 Point Comeback Against Alfred State.

MARCY, N.Y. -  The Wildcat men's basketball team (6-5) lost to Alfred State (7-3) on Wednesday 76-71 after mounting a big comeback, only to lose in the closing minutes. The Wildcats trailed by as much as 17 points in the second half before bringing the score within one point with under a minute to play.

 Blake Haga (Rome, N.Y.) was the driving force of the near-comeback by the Wildcats. In the second half alone, Haga scored 13 of his career high tying 18 points. With just two minutes Blake scored 10 of the Wildcats 12 points including a three pointer with 30 seconds remaining to bring the game within one. Blake finished the game with a team high 18 points, two assists, two steals, and a rebound.

Redell Freeman (Rochester, N.Y.) had a solid game for the Wildcats. He scored 12 points, had a team high six assists, and a team high three steals.

Tymeek Mackie (Rochester, N.Y.) and Kevin Williams (Brooklyn, N.Y.) rounded out the notable scoring performances for the Wildcats. Mackie had 12 points and Williams had 11.

Tyler Taverne (Westmoreland, N.Y.) had a game high 11 rebounds in the game.

For Alfred State, the starting lineup carried the team, scoring 46 points. Juwan Toliver nearly had a triple-double in the game scoring 15 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, and dishing out nine assists. Alexshay Pearce scored a team high 17 points for the Pioneers. Alfred State shot nearly 45 percent in the game.

The Wildcats will take to the road for their next game. The Wildcats will visit NEAC rival Cobleskill State on Wednesday in their first NEAC game of the second semester. The game is scheduled for 5:00 PM on Wednesday January 10th.
