MARCY, N.Y. - A last second game winning attempt against Hobart (5-2) was all that stood between the Wildcats (4-3) and their fifth win of the season. Unfortunately for the Wildcats, the shot did not fall their way resulting in an 81-80 defeat.

The Wildcats had to overcome an early 13-point deficit to have a shot at a win and they did just that. In the closing minutes of the first half, the Wildcats closed the gap to six points thanks to a few solid defensive possessions and two unanswered three pointers to close the half.

The Cats' picked up right where they left off starting the second half with a 17-5 run to tie the game at 47. Down the stretch, the lead would change hands six more times before the game-deciding series of plays in the last 15 seconds of the game. Trailing 79-78, Junior Peyton Griffiths (Milford, N.Y.) made a big steal at half court leading to a Tymeek Mackie (Rochester, N.Y.) tip-in to give the Wildcats an 80-79 lead. A foul with 7.8 seconds by the Wildcats put Hobarts Jamal Lucas on the line. Lucas netted both freebies to give the Statesmen an 81-80 lead. Off the second make, SUNY Poly's Redell Freeman (Rochester, N.Y.) took the ball over half court, split a pair of defenders and got off a layup that could have won the game, but the ball didn't fall the way of the Wildcats and the game came to an end.

  • The Wildcats shot a season high 60 percent from three-point range and hit a season high 12 threes.
  • Redell Freeman finished the game with a game high 24 points. He shot 56 percent from the field and knocked down five of six from three-point range. Freeman was a rebound shy of a double-double and had a team high five assists.
  • Peyton Griffiths had his best shooting performance of the season. Griffiths knocked down three of five from behind the arc in route to a 17-point game.
  • Kevin Williams (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had a game high 10 rebounds and 13 points for his first double-double of the season.
  • Hobarts Jamal Lucas had 22 points, nine rebounds, and two steals.
  • Four of Hobarts starting five had double-digit points.
  • The Statesmen shot 44 percent from the field.
