MBB: Wildcats earn first win, defeats Utica College 63-58

Utica, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly men's basketball team earned their first win of the season on Tuesday against the Utica Pioneers by a score of 63-58. The Wildcats had a good game both offensively, shooting 49 percent from the field and they held the Pioneers to to 28.6% shooting

 

Quayshaun Mitchell (Harlem, N.Y.) led the way for SUNY Poly as he recorded a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. He shot 5-13 from the field and 5-7 from the free throw line. Quayshaun also made a three-pointer for the Wildcats.

 

Kevin Williams (Brooklyn, N.Y.) played a big part in the Wildcats victory, posting 14 points while shooting 6-11 from the field. Williams made both foul shots that he attempted during the game.

 

Josh Gregory (Whitesboro, N.Y.) came off the bench and contributed to SUNY Poly's first win of the season. The freshman recorded 8 points and 8 rebounds in 27 minutes of game time.

 

For the Pioneers, Christian Rodriguez led the way in scoring with 12 points. Ivan Iton and Agim Hamiti had 11 points. Iton also grabbed 9 rebounds in the game for the Pioneers, who fall to 0-4 overall.

 

The Wildcats now sit at 1-1 overall. For their next game, the team will be traveling to Cobleskill to take on the Fighting Tigers on November 30th. The game is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
