Hodge Plays Swan Song to the Tune of 31 Points, 7 Rebounds, and 6 Assists on Senior Day

MARCY, N.Y. – SUNY Poly point guard Maverick Hodge (Bronx, N.Y. / Samuel Gompers) made the most of his final game in a Wildcat uniform Saturday afternoon, leading the SUNY Poly Men's Basketball Team (11-14, 10-7 NEAC) to a 73-65 victory over visiting Wells College (7-18, 7-10 NEAC).

Hodge poured in 31 points to lead all scorers, the second-highest total of his career behind only his 33-point performance earlier in the year at Utica.

Hodge capped a brilliant two-year career at SUNY Poly by leading the Wildcats with averages of 17.4 ppg and 4.9 assists per game this season. On Saturday he filled up the stat sheet, adding 7 rebounds and 6 assists to his gaudy point total.

Complementing Hodge on Saturday was one of the men who will be tasked with filling the large footprint Hodge will leave next season, junior guard Michael Boyea (Chateaugay, N.Y. / Chateaugay). Boyeah scored 14 points on 5 of 8 shooting, and knocked down both of his three-point attempts in the game. The junior played all 40 minutes along with Hodge, and added a team-high 3 steals on the defensive end.

The Wildcats finished the season with one of their better shooting performances, converting an even 50% of their field goal attempts and an even 40% of their three-point tries (6 of 15). Ryan McCarthy (Camden, N.Y. / Camden) had a relatively quieter night for the team's second-leading scorer, but still buried 3 of his 4 three-point attempts, some coming at crucial moments for the home team.

But the show, ultimately, belonged to Hodge. The lanky senior guard scored in every way imaginable – pull-up jumpers, slicing drives to the hoop, runners, post-ups, not to mention a stellar performance from the free throw line – 13 of 16 for the night.

SUNY Poly was eliminated from postseason contention with yesterday's loss to Keuka and Cazenovia's simultaneous defeat of Morrisville, however the young team's climb to 11 wins after starting the season 2-9 bodes well for the future of SUNY Poly men's basketball.
