Men’s Basketball Downed by NEAC-Leading Chargers

MARCY, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly Men's Basketball Team (9-13, 8-6 NEAC) just couldn't get anything going on Friday night in a 79-42 loss to the conference-leading Lancaster Bible College Chargers (19-2, 10-1 NEAC).

The Chargers got out to an early lead and just kept going, outscoring the Wildcats 41-22 in the first half and 38-20 in the second.

CJ Dunston led the victors with 15 points and 8 rebounds on a deadly-efficient 4-of-4 from the field and 6-of-6 from the free throw line. Dondre Perry was next with 14 points. In all, 14 different Charger players registered points in the contest.

As is his wont, point guard Maverick Hodge (Bronx, N.Y. / Samuel Gompers) did his best against the big Charger front (the Chargers have two centers at 6-foot-9 and 6-foot-7 inches tall, both playing substantial minutes). He finished with 12 points to lead the Wildcats.

With the home team out of it for most of the second half, second-semester freshman guard Brenden Hurtado (Staten Island, N.Y. / Marist) was able to get his sea legs, playing a season-high 12 minutes. The rookie got to the line for 8 free throw attempts, knocking down 5 to grab his first career points.

The Wildcats will return to action tomorrow with another home game, this time against the Penn State Berks Nittany Lions. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
