Wildcats Catch Fire for First Victory, 102-98 Over Utica

UTICA, N.Y. - The SUNYIT Wildcats crossed the tracks to grab their first victory of the year Tuesday night, 102-98 over Utica College. With the win, the Wildcats improve to a 1-5 overall record while the Pioneers fall to 3-3 on the season.

First-year junior point guard Sejad Gromilic (Bosnia / Utica-Proctor) exploded for 31 points, five assists and six rebounds to lead the Wildcats in their sixth non-conference contest of the season. Forward and fellow rookie, T'Andre Richardson (Fr., Utica, N.Y. / Utica-Proctor) added 28 points and nine rebounds while junior guard Justin Brignola (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) added 19 points and eight assists to help SUNYIT hang on at the Clark Athletic Center.

The Pioneers fought hard with offensive effort led by junior forward Jeff Ward (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining) who registered 28 points and four assists on the night. Ward also led the defense with four blocks. Junior guard Matt Baldwin (Gloversville, N.Y./Gloversville) had 17 points and also contributed four assists, while senior guard Reggie German (New Hartford, N.Y. /New Hartford) put 21 points on the Pioneers board and helped with two assists. Freshman guard Aaron Nevins (Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius) led the team in assists with eight and five points followed, freshman guard Walker Mills (Utica, N.Y./Proctor) had nine points and two assists and sophomore guard Chris Jeffers (Albany, N.Y./Bishop Maginn) put down eight with two assists.

The Wildcats take a short hiatus until they travel to fellow SUNY, Cortland State on Saturday Dec. 17th to take on the Red Dragons in another non-conference match. Game-time is slated for a 12 p.m. tip-off.
