ABINGTON, PA. - The SUNY Poly baseball team took to the road this past weekend for a four game NEAC weekend against Penn St. Berks and Penn St., Abington. The Wildcats Split with Berks on Saturday; losing the first game 10-2, but bouncing back in game two with an 8-3 win. On Sunday the Wildcats could not carry the momentum of Saturday's win into the second set of games and lost both to Abington; 7-4, 15-1.

In game one on Saturday the Wildcat offense was held to just one hit and two runs, both of which were scored in the top of the ninth inning. Tyler Vyce (Clifton Park, N.Y.) was the owner of the single Wildcat hit. He hit a single in the top of the ninth with two outs to break up a no hitter by Berks's Sean Pavlik and drive in the first Wildcat run. Ryan Wegner (Rochester, N.Y.) had the second RBI for the Wildcats after being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. The final score was 10-2.

In game two, the Wildcats got a great pitching performance from freshman Brett Flint (Amsterdam, N.Y.) who earned his third win of the season. He threw five innings allowing seven hits and one earned run.

The Wildcat offense found its groove in game two. Connor Passalacqua (Whitestown, N.Y.) went 3-4 with a walk and two runs in the game. Ryan Wegner went 2-4 with 2 RBIs and Joshua Rodriguez (North Syracuse, N.Y.) went 1-3 with 2 RBIs. Dalton Earl (Troupsburg, N.Y.) went 2-3 with a walk as the designated hitter. The Wildcats scored in the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh innings to secure the 8-3 win.

Sunday's games did not go well for the Wildcats. The pitching staff struggled, giving up 22 runs in the two games. The exception to the poor pitching performances were Alex Helenek (Glenville, N.Y.) who closed out game one with two scoreless innings, and Paul Wozniak (Hamlin, N.Y.) who did the same in game two.

Offensively the Wildcats had just 10 hits in the 16 innings of baseball that they played. Tyler Vyce went 3-7 in the double header with three RBIs and a double.

The final score in game one of the double header was 7-4 and the score of the second was 10-1 with Abington earning the win in both.

The Wildcats are now 13-8 for the season and 5-5 in the NEAC. The team will be back in action on Wednesday when they will host SUNY Canton in a non-conference game at Peter A. Spina Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
