BSB: Wildcats Finish Long Island Duo of Double Headers 1-3.

BELLEROSE, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly baseball team took to the road for a four game road trip in the Long Island / New York City area against St. Josephs College of Brooklyn and CCNY. Unfortunately for the Wildcats the trip did not go quite as planned. The team emerged from the duo of doubleheaders 1-3, dropping one to St. Josephs on Friday and both to CCNY on Saturday.

Day One

Game one on Friday got off to a good start for the Wildcats. The team went up 3-0 in the top of the first on a three run home run by Tyler Vyce (Clifton Park, N.Y.). The Wildcats would hold the lead behind starting pitcher Sawyer Haney (Cooperstown, N.Y.) up until the bottom of the fifth inning when, after trailing by two runs, the Bears of St. Josephs struck with a two run homer of their own off the bat of Brian Luebcke. The Wildcats would get out of the inning, but the Bears were determined to get the win. That determination showed in the bottom of the seventh when the tie was broken on a walk-off sacrifice fly. To win the game 5-4.

Dante Rose (Utica, N.Y.) went 3-3 in the loss with a double, two singles, and a run scored. Sawyer Haney got a no decision. He threw six innings allowing four runs and striking out two batters.

Game two went much differently for the Wildcats as the bats came to life and the offense gave Jared Muraca (Deerfield, N.Y.) plenty of run support to work with. Muraca threw a complete game allowing five runs and striking out three to earn the win. Tyler Vyce had another big game at the plate. He went 2-3 with a home run, a double, and drove in five runs on the day. The Final score of game two was 12-6 in favor of the Wildcats.

Connor Critelli (Whitesboro, N.Y.) had a four bagger of his own in the top of the forth inning. He finished the game 2-4 with two RBIs.

Ray Smith (Staten Island, N.Y.) went 3-5 in the leadoff spot. Connor Passalacqua (Whitestown, N.Y.) went 2-4 in the game and had three RBIs and a walk.

Day 2

Day two saw the Wildcat offense disappear from existence. The team mustered up just one run on nine hits across 14 innings of play. Not a single SUNY Poly hitter put up a multi-hit game. The Wildcats only run scored in the double header against CCNY came off the bat of Ryan Wegner (Rochester, N.Y.) who drove in Ray Smith on a single to left field. The Wildcats defense also had an off day. They made four errors in the two game sweep by CCNY. The final score of game one was 7-0, and the final score of game two was 6-1.

The 1-3 weekend by the Wildcats puts their season record at 6-11. The team will look to rebound on Wednesday when they will host SUNY Cortland in a non-league, single game at Peter A. Spina Field on the Campus of SUNY Poly. First pitch is set for 3:30 PM.
