Baseball Downed in NEAC Action by Nittany Lions

MARCY, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly Baseball Team fell to the defending NEAC Champion Penn State Berks Nittany Lions on Saturday. The visitors took the first game 11 to 3, then shutout the Wildcats 5-0 in the nightcap.

It was a tough day overall for the 'Cats. Penn State Berks took advantage of 4 Wildcat errors in the first game to breeze to an 11-3 win.

Sean Pavlik went 8 and 1/3 innings for the visitors to pick up the win, striking out 5.

Josh Rodriguez, Gerald Milanes, Tyler Vyce, and Dante Rose all racked up 2 hits apiece for the Wildcats. Zach Reis led the visitors with a 3-for-4 day including a triple.

In game two, it was Reis taking the mound for the Nittany Lions. The right-hander hurled a complete game shutout, allowing just 3 hits and 1 walk while striking out 3.

Ryan Kelly took the bump for the home team, and pitched well through 6 innings. He scattered 8 hits and kept the Wildcats in it, giving up just 3 runs.

The Wildcats had a chance in the bottom of the 6th when a throwing error gave the team a runner at first to start the inning, but Reis responded by getting a pair of groundballs, the second of which turned into a double play to end the inning.

The Wildcats host Penn State Abington tomorrow in another home doubleheader. First pitch scheduled for 12:00 pm.
