Cardiac Cats Claw back for Extra Inning Victory, Fall in Game 2

MARCY, N.Y.-  The SUNYIT Baseball team (10-9, 5-1 NEAC) were back at it Saturday as they earned a double header split with visiting Gallaudet (18-10, 6-2 NEAC).

Game one was a battle to the final pitch as the Wildcats found a way yet again to earn a late inning victory. Down 6-1 in the 3rd inning, the Wildcats chipped away at the Bison lead before eventually taking a 10-9 lead. A 6th inning run by the Bison to tie the game, brought the Wildcats Ryan Dungey (Vernon, N.Y./ VVS) to the mound. Dungey yet again answered the call as he threw 2 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball and allowing just one hit while striking out 5.

The bottom of the 8th proved to be the difference as Dylan Gorski (Whitestown, N.Y./ Whitesboro) lined a double down the left field line with one out, to set up senior captain Jim Sass (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) to be the hero. Sass ripped his fourth hit of the game to center field which plated Gorski as the Wildcats picked up the 11-10 victory.

Sass finished the game 4-5 at the plate with 3 runs and 2 RBI with Dungey picking up his second victory of the year on the mound.

Game two saw the Wildcats jump out to a 3-1 lead in the 3rd inning as Sass and the rest of the Wildcat attack stayed hot. That would be it for the offense however as the Wildcat bats went silent from there. The Bison were able to push across runs in the 4th through 6th innings giving them the 6-3 victory.

Ian Evans went the distance for the Bison allowing just 3 runs on 7 hits in the game. The Wildcats got a great start out of Cody Crego (Holland Patent, N.Y./ Holland Patent) who took the loss despite 4 2/3 innings of solid work.

Jim Sass again led the Wildcat attack as he went 2-3 in game two with a walk. Sass finished the day 6-8 at the dish with 3 runs scored.

The Wildcats are back in action tomorrow as they host the Bison in the final game of their 3 game series at noon.
