Baseball Swept by Swarthmore

SWARTHMORE, PA – The SUNYIT baseball team was swept during its doubleheader with Swarthmore College Sunday, falling 11-4 in game one and 5-0 in game two.  The Wildcats are now 3-7 overall.

Swarthmore tallied 13 hits to SUNYIT's five in game one and recorded six strikeouts to pick up the victory.  They opened with five runs in the first inning and never looked back, adding at least one run in all but one inning the rest of the way to get the win.

Junior Jhomel Solano (Bronx, NY/Cristo Rey) finished 1-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and one run scored for SUNYIT, while sophomore Anthony Barnao (Ticonderoga, NY/Ticonderoga) went 2-for-3 and scored two runs.

Ben Schneiderman went 4-for-4 with four RBI and one run scored for Swarthmore, while Mike Cameron drove in two runs and scored another.  Zach Weiner struck out five to register the victory on the mound.

While the Wildcats held Swarthmore to nine hits in game two, they registered just two of their own to suffer the shutout, thanks to Swarthmore's Ignacio Rodriguez, who had 10 strikeouts in six innings of work.   Offensively, Swarthmore put a run on the board in the first and second innings and added three more in the sixth to seal the victory.

Niko Burnett and Thomas Nakamura both finished 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Bryce Codell finished 1-for-2 with an RBI and one run scored.

Junior Michael McCrone (Whitney Point, NY/Hudson Valley CC) and freshman Jim Sass (Kingston, NY/Kingston) each registered a hit for SUNYIT.

The Wildcats will be back in action this Friday for a pair of nine inning contests on the campus of the SUNY College at Old Westbury.  They will take on Baruch College at 2:00 pm before taking on Old Westbury at 5:00 pm.
