Fratini Named ABCA All-American

UTICA, NY – SUNYIT senior Chris Fratini (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) has been selected to the 2010 Rawlings/American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Division III All-American Second Team.

Fratini was selected to the team after being chosen to the Rawlings/ABCA All-Region First Team, which placed his name on the national ballot.  It is the second such award that he has won this year, as he was also named to the D3baseball.com All-America Second Team last month.

Fratini put together what was arguably the greatest individual season in program history, starting all 40 Wildcat contests and leading the team in batting average (.511), slugging percentage (.950), on-base percentage (.577), at-bats (141), hits (72), homeruns (7), RBI (49), runs scored (44), doubles (13), triples (14), total bases (134) and stolen bases (14).  He broke the single-season program records for batting average, slugging percentage, hits, RBI, runs scored, triples, total bases and at-bats and finished his career as the program's all-time leader in hits, RBI, triples and total bases.  Additionally, the slugger finished tied for first in career homeruns, while being second all time in slugging percentage and stolen bases, third in runs scored, fourth in batting average and at-bats, fifth in walks drawn and tenth in doubles.

Fratini was crowned the North Eastern Athletic Conference Player of the Year and was selected to the NEAC All-Conference First Team for the second straight season after leading the NEAC in batting average, slugging percentage, hits, triples and total bases, while being tied for first in homeruns and finishing second in RBI, doubles and on-base percentage.  He also finished the year as the national leader in both total triples and triples per game and came one triple shy of tying the NCAA Division III record for the most in a season, in addition to ranking second nationally in batting average, third in slugging percentage and seventh in on-base percentage.

The Wildcats finished 19-21 overall and won the NEAC West divisional championship after entering the four-team, double-elimination tournament as the fourth seed.  Fratini played a large role in that, as he was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player after going 8-for-14 at the plate with two homeruns, two triples, eight RBI, eight runs scored, four walks drawn and a stolen base in three contests.
