Coach Tom Pfisterer enters his second season at the helm of the SUNY Poly baseball team in 2018-19. In his first year as head coach of the Wildcats, Pfisterer led his team to a 4-0 start for the first time in the history of the program. The Wildcats would finish the season with a 12-18 record, going 6-7 in NEAC play and qualifying for NEAC postseason play.
Prior to taking the Head Coaching position, Pfisterer spent two seasons with the Wildcats, first as an Assistant Coach and then as an Associate Head Coach in 2017. Prior to his hiring, Tom was the Head Baseball Coach at Clinton High School for six years (2009-14). During that time Pfisterer’s team compiled a record of 77-51 and earned three consecutive CSC-Division I League Championships from 2012-14. Over that span, his team won three Section 3 Class B Titles and appeared in the State Championship Final in 2013 and the State Championship Semi-Final in 2014.
A former local athlete, Pfisterer enjoyed a successful career on the diamond. In 1979 he led his John F. Kennedy High School team to a Section 3 Class B Championship, hitting .492 and compiling a 6-1 record on the mound with a 0.45 ERA. In the Sectional Final game vs. Syracuse Bishop Grimes Pfisterer pitched a two hit shutout, striking out 17 batters. In 1980 Pfisterer played at the University of Dayton and earned Rookie of the Year honors compiling a .318 batting average and a 4-4 record on the mound.
In the 1981 season, Pfisterer transferred to the University of Cincinnati where he led the Bearcats in home runs in 1982 and 1983 and had a .323 batting average. He was named to the Metro Conference All-Tournament Team in 1983.
In 1993 Pfisterer returned to the diamond, playing in the Mohawk Valley Adult League (with former Head Coach Kevin Edick) and went on to play for 10 years, helping his Fitness Mill Colonels' team to League Championships in 1993, 94, 96, 97, and 98.
Coach Pfisterer currently resides in New Hartford with his wife Gina and his three children Elena, Thomas, and Dominick.
